Has your Medicare plan gotten too expensive, or no longer meets your needs?

Let's find out how to get a more cost-efficient option for you.

One of my Medicare rules of thumb is this: “The longer you’ve been in your Medicare plan, the more money you can save by switching”

Now this isn't true in every case. But, it's true quite often.

This could apply to a Medigap, Medicare Advantage, or standalone Medicare Drug Plan.

Does one of these situation sounds like the one you're in?

  • You've been in your Medigap plan for 5 years and it's already gone up $50 per month
  • Your doctor just left your Medicare Advantage network and no longer accepts your plan
  • You're seeing all the commercials on TV about “free plans” that have vision and dental coverage included and want to know if they’re too good to be true
  • You're sick of being “nickled and dimed” every time you see a doctor and want to lower your out-of-pocket expenses
  • You just moved to a new state and want to know what your new plan options are

Plans change, prices change, and your health needs change over time. If you haven’t had your Medicare coverage reviewed in while, you could be overpaying. By a LOT.

So where do you start? Well, first let’s figure out what you want to do…

You’ll likely fall into one of these categories. You want to either:

  1. 1
    Find a cheaper Medigap plan
  2. 2
Leave your Medicare Advantage plan and get a Medigap plan
  3. 3
Leave your Medigap plan and get a Medicare Advantage plan
  4. 4
Switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan
  5. 5
    Find different drug coverage

Each of these involves a specific time period when you can make this change. Some of them require answering health questions. I’ll explain this process in a bit more detail further down below…

I can help you shop for a different Medicare plan that will either save you money, improve your coverage, or both!

I have been helping folks just like you with their Medicare plans since 2012.

I’ve had thousands of conversations with folks about their Medicare coverage, and everyone’s situation has been a bit different: health, finances, location, preference for type of plan, etc.

I'm licensed to sell both Medigap and Medicare Advantage plans with over 20 different insurance companies. This means I represent your best interest as my client to help you find the most cost-efficient plan to meet your needs, rather than representing the needs of any one insurance company.

Here is a bit more detailed list of what's involved in switching certain types of Medicare plans:

1

You want to find a cheaper Medigap plan:

  • You can switch from one Medigap plan to another any time throughout the year (no, really!)
  • Once you've been on Part B for 6 months or more, you have to answer health questions to apply with a new plan***
  • Every insurance company asks different health questions on their applications
  • If you're turned down by one company, you can apply with another company, and another...
  • If you're accepted with a new company, only then do you cancel your current plan

2

You want to leave your Medicare Advantage plan for a Medigap plan:

  • You can only leave a Medicare Advantage plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 - Dec. 7) or the Open Enrollment Period (Jan. 1 - Mar. 31)
  • Once you've been on Part B for 6 months or more, you have to answer health questions to apply with a new plan***
  • Every insurance company asks different health questions on their applications
  • If you're turned down by one company, you can apply with another company, and another...
  • If you're accepted with the new company, you can apply for a drug plan which automatically cancels your Medicare Advantage plan either the 1st of the year or 1st of the following month

3

You want to leave your Medigap plan for a Medicare Advantage plan:

  • You can only join a Medicare Advantage plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 - Dec. 7)
  • There are no health questions to join a Medicare Advantage plan, so you can't be turned down
  • Make sure your new plan covers any prescriptions you take and any doctors you wish to see

4

You want to switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan:

  • You can switch a Medicare Advantage plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 - Dec. 7) or the Open Enrollment Period (Jan. 1 - Mar. 31)
  • There are no health questions to join a Medicare Advantage plan, so you can't be turned down
  • Make sure your new plan covers any prescriptions you take and any doctors you wish to see

5

You want to find a different standalone Prescription Drug plan

  • You can switch a Prescription drug plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 - Dec. 7)
  • Use the Plan Finder on Medicare.gov to find the most cost-efficient plan in your area for your list of meds using the pharmacy of your choice
  • There are no health questions to join a new drug plan, so you can't be turned down
  • You can apply for a drug plan which automatically cancels your current drug plan the 1st of the year

*** Some states allow you to join a new Medigap plan at certain times of the year or in certain situations with no health questions. Other states have no health questions for Medigap plans ever.

Also, during many Special Enrollment Periods (SEP) you can switch your Medigap, Medicare Advantage, or Drug plan outside of the certain times of the year mentioned above. Also, you may be able to get a Medigap plan with no health questions too. A common SEP that would allow you to switch plans with less restrictions is if you move to a different state, or service area that your plan covers.

Here are a couple things some of my clients have said about working with me...

Moving to Medicare and choosing a supplemental insurance can be scary and confusing. Chris takes that away with advice that is understandable and easy. He does all the leg work and follows-up to make sure everything is going well. When it comes time to renew, he reviews your current status and makes changes as necessary.

Chris is very thorough explaining the different Medicare plans. I was familiar with a lot of the information, but he clearly explained so much more. If you don't understand 100%, he will go over it with you until you do. Also, Chris was prompt and on-time with appointments I scheduled with him.

Choosing your new Medicare plan should NOT be a one-and-done decision

Your first decision when you first start Medicare is extremely important.  However, you’re going to be on Medicare the rest of your life.  Choosing the best plan should not be a one-and-done decision, but rather one that involves regular check-ups and reviews.

Things will change over time whether it’s your healthcare needs, your budget, or your plan.  Sometimes it can be all three of these at once.

If you're thinking about getting a new plan, it's because something changed.

So, if you signed up for your first plan with:

  • Someone who didn’t offer both Medigap and Medicare Advantage plans, they may not be able to help you now as something has changed
  • Someone who just represented one or two companies, they won't let you know now that you can save money by switching to a competitor
  • Someone who was new to the industry, there’s a decent chance they aren't around now to help you review or change your plan, or help you with bills and follow-up questions
  • The insurance company directly, they will never let you know when you can save a lot of money by switching to the same plan with a different company

This is why it’s extremely important to get the help of an agent who is a Medicare expert who is able to give you unbiased help and ongoing service. If you signed up for a plan directly with an insurance company or through some random telemarketer who called you, you may have either enrolled in a plan that wasn't right for you to start with or signed up with someone who isn't able to help now that something's changed.

Here are the things I offer to all of my Medicare clients:
